Foreclosure Prevention and Counseling

Umpqua CDC is hosting classes to help families who are dealing with default.  If you live in Douglas County, do not have an auction date, and need help, you must first attend a class in order to make an appointment.  If you live out of town, or do have an auction date, you can make an appointment prior to attending a class.  The classes are free of charge and will provide very detailed information about the foreclosure process.  They will be held at the Douglas ESD building located at 1871 NE Stephens Street in Roseburg from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.  The dates are as follows:

August 27th     September 17th    October 15th    November 12th     December 10th

Did you know?

  • Over half of the borrowers in foreclosure have had no contact with their lender.

  • Delinquent families are 4 times more likely to pay important monthly bills late.

  • Families in delinquency are more likely to take on several other financial obligations each month.

  • Of families who have never contacted their lender about delinquency, 16% were too embarrassed, scared or didn't know who to call for      help or support.

  • 61% of delinquent homeowners do not know that their lender can assist them in avoiding a foreclosure.

On Tuesday March 4, 2009, the Obama Administration unveiled the specifics of the "Making Home Affordable" program. The program provides new, never before offered options for homeowners that have been struggling to pay their mortgage. The program allows homeowners with loans that are unaffordable the opportunity to have their loans modified or refinanced. Under the plan, affordable loans will be created so that you can keep your home. To find out if you qualify for this program go to www.makinghomeaffordable.gov and follow the easy instructions.

Umpqua CDC is partnering with several other agencies in Oregon to provide delinquency counseling and education to residents in Southern Oregon.  Homeowners can make one simple call to 1-888-995-HOPE (4673) and receive information and referrals to a local counselor in their area.  Counselors can help to create loan modifications or work outs, deferments, and payment plans, or can counsel homeowners about the process of protecting credit, looking at a budget and making the transition as smooth as possible.

Remember!! Assistance is free, or very low cost.  If anyone asks you to pay for their service, stop!! There are scams out there that use very similar names but are not the real thing.

If you or someone you know if facing a foreclosure, or if you want to learn how to prevent it from happening to you, contact Olympia Church to learn how.
